A Sacred Journey Through Devotional Melodies

Kathar Panchali
A new journey.

Bringing words along with me, I am coming with my first audio-visual series, 'Kathar Panchali,' where words lovingly tell stories. From casual conversations to faraway tales, 'Kathar Panchali' brings together all kinds of words.

Coming periodically on my social media.

A year celebrated through twelve songs.

Sangeetam, the first audio platform in Bengali, had launched its work for the coming twelve months all at once. This is the celebration of its anniversary.

In this grand endeavor, I had the support of many, and I had the opportunity to work with several talented individuals. I am grateful to them, and I am indebted. A year of love, a year of good music.

This year, once again, something new is coming. Stay with us.

The Journey

Very early on in her life Aditi realized the value of love. She realized that the true purpose of her art is to resonate with the devotion of her patrons and her audience.

Since her first performance at the All India Merit Contest, 2010, she was rewarded for her evocative style by the then Governor of Bengal Shri M.K. Narayanan. Following that in 2012 she was recognized by Akashvani as a Sangeet Shilpi. 2015 was particularly significant for Aditi as she got international exposure through Zee Bangla Sa-re-ga-ma-paa. She not only walked through the auditions but emerged as, what the jury called, Queen of Kirtans.

Later in 2016 she received the Sangeet Samman award from the Chief Minister of Bengal. A string of successful performances in India and Bangladesh and her growing popularity contributed to her being chosen as a brand ambassador of the Chattagram Bagishik Geet Sansad. In 2018 she was recognized as Kirtan Samragee by Shree Chaitanya Institute of Vaishnavite Culture. In 2020 She was nominated for the Emerging female vocalist in Bengali category and received the title from Mirchi Music Awards.

Early Life

Aditi Munshi saw the light of the world on 26th August, 1988, in the household of Manindra Munshi and Mitali Munshi of Dakshinpara locality of Baguihati, Kolkata. She was brought up in a household which had the soul of puratoni music. Kirtan was practiced as an everyday affair during the daily worship ritual of the clan gods and goddesses of the household. The daily recitals of devotional songs under maternal supervision and paternal inspiration shaped Adit's foundation for musical performance.

Her grooming, cultural initiation into the path of devotion towards her art and her muse started at a very tender age. As she grew up, her rigor for the artistic practice merged with the bhakti for her muse. Before long Aditi found herself to be an embodiment of the devotional kirtans she sang and the invoked muse to whom she dedicated her songs to.

Music Career

Aditi was first introduced to vocal training by her parents Mitali Munshi and Manindra Munshi. Later as she grew up she was groomed by Shri Shubrakanto Chatterjee and Shri Snehashish Chatterjee. As she continued to progress she went on to learn from Shrimati Kankana Mitra. Later on her path of mastering the art of Kirtan performances and Puratoni music she received taleem from Shrimati Saraswati Das, for Kitan and from Timir Baran Bhattacharya, for Puratoni music. Since Kirtan performers both play percussion instruments and sing at the same time she trained on the Tabla under the guidance of Dhruba Biswas and on the Shri Khol under the guidance of Gautam Bhattacharya. Aditi also undertook institutional training and completed her Bachelors of performative art in Kirtan from Rabindra Bharati University. Other than receiving guidance from such expert musicians she was blessed in abundance by some deeply spiritual souls which often reflect during her performances.
